Buddha taught that attachment to outcomes is a root cause of suffering. He encouraged being present for the process, and to let go of the goal. A good place to practice non-attachment is with exercise. Instead of focusing on calories burned, miles logged or pounds lost, turn your attention to the process. How do you feel while exercising? What about when you are done? What is joyful about the exercise? Is there a way to bring more joy into it? Tune into your body and the experience and the calories, miles and pounds will take care of themselves.
