A great joy that comes from mindful eating is the ability to be at ease with food. What do I mean by that? I mean that because of mindful eating you will be comfortable in the presence of food. Regardless of where you are, what is being served or not being served, you will be just fine. When you are dieting, the world is a harder place to navigate. How many times have you turned down an invitation because you were afraid of the food? How many times have you ordered a plain green salad, dressing on the side, while others in your party were enjoying a nice steak or pasta dish? How many times did you say “the heck with it” and throw caution to the wind and overindulge because you were tired of being on a diet? If you are a chronic dieter, I guess your answer will be “a lot.” Now, imagine having the confidence that wherever you go you know in your heart that you will make right decisions about food. Imagine that you can enjoy a steak or pasta dish, eating exactly the correct amount for you and taking the rest home for later. By tuning into your internal cues (like hunger, taste and fullness) you can do just that. When you take your mindful eating habits with you, you can go anywhere. Food becomes easy.
