A wonderful gift from mindful eating is a closer relationship with your body. As you practice mindful eating skills, you will become more in tune with your body’s needs and wants. You will actually be able to tell what you are hungry for. One way to start building that skill is when you are hungry, take a moment, get quiet, close your eyes and become aware of your body. Try to “read” your body by asking it what it wants. For example, hot or cold? Solid or liquid? Protein or starch? Sweet or salty? At first, you won’t know for sure. but with time, you will get better at it.
If you can discern what your body wants, try to feed it that if possible. If you do, check in with how your body responses to what you feed it. That information will go a long way to understanding your body’s needs.
