Happy Valentine’s Day! Before you dive into that box of chocolates, let’s get mindful! Today is a day that many associate with love. Here’s a question for you – do you love the food you eat? By that I mean, do you choose to eat foods you really enjoy? Are you sure? Have you really tasted the foods you claim to enjoy? Let’s consider that box of chocolates. Do you dive in, popping one chocolate into your mouth after another, or do savor each morsel? Do you taste what you are eating or do you take large bites and swallow quickly? When I started mindful eating, I noticed that foods that I thought I loved I really didn’t once I truly tasted them. Now, I reject those former favorites and choose, instead, new preferences. Eating food, you love does not mean overeating them or eating them quickly. It means tasting and savoring the foods you choose.  Practice choosing food you love. See if doing so results in a more satisfying eating experience.  Adapted from Mindful Bites – Joyful Life: 365 Days of Mindful Eating. Available in bookstores everywhere.
