It may surprise you to know that naturally thin people sometime eat ice cream when you they are stressed or chocolate when they are sad. It is not a crime to eat junk food. I know. I used to be lawyer! Emotional eating is part of the condition, so if you do overeat, please don’t beat yourself up. Observe it. Pay attention to it and move on. Like with meditation, when you mind wanders, you gently bring your attention back to your breath. Same with eating. If you overeat, emotionally eat or mindlessly eat, no worries, just gently bring yourself back to mindfulness. Our goal is to be balanced. That naturally thin person who ate ice cream early in the day because she had a fight with her boyfriend, naturally ate less dinner because she was most likely less hungry than she would have been had she not eaten the ice cream. That’s balanced eating. You can become a balanced eater too. All it takes is awareness and guidance from your Inner Wisdom. Adapted from Mindful Bites – Joyful Life: 365 Days of Mindful Eating. Available in bookstores everywhere.
