It’s easy to feel grateful when things are going your way, but what about finding gratitude wherever you are?
I was recently sitting in massive traffic on the San Diego Freeway. The distance between my home and my destination was a mere 9 miles and yet it took me over an hour to get there. (Ahh, life in Los Angeles!!) Part of the time I felt aggravated, of course. But then I chose to take a mindful approach and I asked myself what there is to be grateful for in this situation.
I started to make a list. I had a car that works. I had a full tank of gasoline. My radio worked. The temperature in the car was comfortable. The weather was clear. Within minutes my irritability vanished, and I patiently made my way down the highway. Whatever situation you are in, it’s possible to find things to be grateful for. By shifting your focus away from what is upsetting or aggravating you to what you can feel grateful for could make the difference between a pleasant experience and an unpleasant one.
What could you be grateful for today?
