Being aware of your body’s signals of hunger and fullness are important parts of mindful eating. Sometimes it seems easier to recognize when you are hungry than when you are full. How can you know you’re full? How about using the Hesitant Fork Trick?

This trick isn’t really a trick at all. It is simply noticing when there is a slight resistance to eating. If you pay attention, you may notice that there comes a point in your eating when, as you are bringing another forkful up towards your mouth, your arm slightly pauses. I call that the hesitant fork, and think of it as a subtle signal from your body that it has had enough. If you notice it, you can make a choice to stop eating or continue a bit longer, checking in with your stomach to see how full it is getting.

Does your fork hesitate?
