With a mindfulness-based practice, we become more aware of life around us. Our mindful meditations allow us to experience things more deeply. Some mindful meditations include aspects of loving kindness and gratitude. With mindful eating, we take time to acknowledge all who participated in bringing the food we eat to our tables. From the animals who gave their lives, to the farmers who tilled the soil, to the clerk who stocked the shelf, to the chef who cooked our meal, to the server who presented it to us – everyone and everything is connected. The next time you eat, look deeply into your food and its “life story.” Hold this awareness in your heart, and send all involved thoughts of loving kindness and gratitude.
