Here’s the secret: if you have to ask, you are. As you get tuned into the subtleties of your body, you’ll learn that when you’re hungry, there is a sense of urgency to eat. As you eat, you will notice that you start to slow down. That’s a good time to ask yourself if you’re still hungry or if it is a sign that you have had enough. If you are not sure of the answer, my best suggestion is that you stop eating time and give yourself permission to return to this food (or some other food) when you feel hungry again. That might be in five minutes, five hours, tomorrow morning, who knows!

Learning to recognize fullness is a mindful eating skill that you can learn. The key is to check in with yourself while you eat, noticing any changes in your appetite, your level of hungry, or how your stomach feels.

How easy (or hard) is it for you to know when you are full?
