Most people come to mindful eating to lose weight, and weight loss is a natural by-product, but it is not the focus. Weighing oneself is can be a valuable part of this process if you use it to provide information on what is working and what needs work. However, focusing on the number on the scale can be counter-productive.
If you choose to step on a scale, tell yourself that part of learning to eat mindfully is learning to accept “what is” without judgment. The number on the scale is purely information for your use and benefit and not something with which to judge yourself (positively or negatively). Your “goal,” if you want to call it that, is to allow your body to reach the weight that is right for it. If that number is higher or lower than the number you have in mind, so be it. By choosing to become a mindful eater, you are choosing to trust your body’s wisdom and this mindful eating process rather than your scale.
