To navigate mindfully in everyday life, it is helpful to recognize what situations in life pull your attention away from yourself in such a way as to leave you vulnerable to mindless eating. For example, does your favorite television show do that to you? How about a sporting event or an action movie? What about a heated debate, a poker game, or a good book? As you identify the situations that might lead you to eat mindlessly, you might consider forgoing food while you participate in them. A good strategy is to pair food only with circumstances in which you can remain mindful. In other words, when in doubt, leave the food out!
