This Sunday is Father’s Day in the US. If you are fortunate to have a father or father-figure in your life, now is the time to extend appreciation and gratitude for his presence and the gifts, wisdom and lessons he gave. If your father (or father-figure) has passed, you can still remember what he meant to you. It is easy to take for granted the people, objects and experiences that are everyday occurrences.

But, taking things for granted is not being mindful. When we take things for granted, we are not present with them, and when we are not present, we miss so much. Often it isn’t until something is lost to us that we understand the full nature of its importance in our lives. This Father’s Day, offer gratitude and appreciation to your loved one. If you can, spend time with him, listen, see, feel. Notice his smile, laugh, eyes, voice, cologne. Look past the obvious to who he really is, and what he gives to you.

The greatest gift we can bestow upon to someone is our full attention. Who will you give that gift to this Father’s Day?
