TAME: The Art of Mindful Eating
Sheila Forman, Ph.D
Hello. I’m Dr. Sheila Forman. I have a PHD in psychology and am a Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT) Instructor. For over twenty years, I have been helping people address weight and food issues by focusing on the emotional aspects of overeating. At times, I became concerned by the lack of progress some of my clients were making trying to differentiate physical and emotional hungers, identify feelings of fullness, and cope with their emotions without turning to food. I wanted to help them but didn’t know how.
In search of answers, I came across the work of Dr. Jean Kristeller of Indiana State University. She is the pioneering researcher in the field of mindfulness-based eating awareness, and the author of The Joy of Half a Cookie. Supported by NIH-funded research, MB-EAT addresses mindless and emotional eating and weight concerns by incorporating mindfulness meditation and other mindful skills and techniques.
After reading her book, I dug deeper and found her professional training program. I completed the training and became one of the first qualified MB-EAT Instructors in the world.
The TAME Your Appetite: The Art of Mindful Eating programs are the product of my MB-EAT training. Whether you choose to learn this approach to weight management through a live workshop, online course or coaching calls, I look forward to sharing with you what I have learned so you can go from mindless munching and emotional eating to peace with food and mindful habits.
