When was the last time you smelled something wonderful? Really smelled it? Did you know our sense of smell is closely related to our memories and to taste? Coincidence? I wonder.
Anyway, as you may know by now, smell is also an important part of mindful eating. So, practice smelling. Go to a flower shop and sniff around until you find your favorite flower. Go to a cosmetics counter and sample the perfume fragrances. What do you like? Musty? Floral? Sweet? Spicy? Sniff past a bakery or a deli. Know a baby? Nothing smells better than a baby’s head. Light some incense or scented candles. Make homemade marinara sauce, and let the aroma fill your kitchen.
Allow yourself to enjoy your sense of smell. The more you can smell, the more you can taste, and taste satisfaction is a major player in mindful eating.
