I had lunch recently with a young colleague of mine. She was intrigued by the programs and coaching I am offering and then asked me the question everyone asks me when they hear about mindful eating, “What about weight loss?” I told her what I tell others. Mindful eating is a non-diet approach to weight management that is not a quick fix, but rather has the potential to be a permanent one. Then I asked her the question I pose at the beginning of every mindful eating program, “How would you feel if a year from now you have lost some, not as much as you might have wanted but still some, and you know that the weight is off for good?”  Without hesitation, her eyes opened wide and she said “Tremendous! That would great. Who wouldn’t want that?” Exactly. If you have been practicing your mindful eating skills and doing your daily meditations, and have not yet lost the weight you want to lose, please be patient. It is coming. I know it can be frustrating when all you want is the weight off, but haven’t you lost weight before and it returned? Sometimes with a bonus pound or two? Release the goal of weight loss for the time being and concentrate on obtaining peace with food and peace of mind. The weight will come off. Remember a watched pot never boils!
