When I first got my training in MB-EAT, I heard a question posed by Dr. Jean Kristeller, author of Joy of Half a Cookie. She asked, “What if, a year from now, you lost weight, maybe not as much as you’d like, but you were more in control of your life and eating and the weight you lost felt permanent because it reflected change you could live with for the rest of your life?”
What a wonderful question! People seek me out to lose weight and lose it now! I explain that using a non–diet approach takes longer but has the potential for better lasting results. Some are not happy with that information. But, when I pose Dr. Kristeller’s question to them, their perspective changes. Ask yourself the same question, “what if a year from now you lost weight, maybe not as much as you’d like, but you were more in control of your life and eating and the weight you lost felt permanent because it reflected change you could live with for the rest of your life,”
